Ray James Memorial Lecture

The Australian Health Promotion Association WA Branch cordially invites you to the Annual General Meeting and Awards Night! This year's theme for the 14th Annual Ray James Memorial Lecture is ‘Oh the places you’ll go!’.

This theme will capture the diversity of the Health Promotion field and celebrate all the places it can take us. A timely theme, given that the borders are open; we wish to reflect, inspire and recognise the incredible work that takes place across Australia... and beyond. We will be focussing on Global Health and Australia's role in this, and will be hearing from Lucy Westerman about her experiences in her career so far, particularly working for a Global NGO to build stronger governance for disease prevention.

We are excited to present Lucy Westerman, the Ray James Orator for 2022.

Lucy works at the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation – VicHealth, where she leads work on Commercial Determinants of Health. She recently returned from several years living in the UK with her family, where she oversaw global campaigns and the chronic disease / NCD prevention and health promotion policy and advocacy work at the NCD Alliance, a global NGO pursuing stronger and better governance for disease prevention. In these roles Lucy has sharpened her focus on alcohol, nutrition, pollution and physical inactivity, and looking ‘upstream’ at cross-cutting issues such as the influence of social, political, commercial and environmental determinants on health – and illness.

Lucy holds a Master of Public Health from University of Melbourne, and Bachelor degrees in Health Sciences (Health Promotion, Hons), Arts (Sociology), Science (Nutrition) from La Trobe University. After starting her career in health research, Lucy went on to lead a government environmental health regulatory program, as well as holding strategic and leadership roles at various not-for-profits in Australia.
